A Bunny Walk

Octopus fish tank rabbit

Welcome to you my dear reader. Today’s tale will be about Bunny finding an octopus on his walk.

One day, little Bunny was in the mood for an adventure. So, he packed some snacks and some water and set out for a walk through the valley. It was a beautiful sunny day – the perfect day for a walk thought Bunny.

As he walked, he picked the flower buds off bushes and squashed them in his hands. He picked up branches and peeled off the dried bark. He also stopped at a sewer grate and dropped pebbles through the cover. Bunny liked hearing the splash when the pebbles hit the water.

“Hey,” called a voice. “That almost hit me.”

Startled, Bunny called back: “is somebody down there? Do you need help?”

“I don’t know,” said the nearing voice. “Just give me one second.”

With that, Bunny could see tentacles wrapping around and through the manhole cover. With a grunt, the cover slid to the side and an octopus popped out.

“Hi, my name is Apu,” said the octopus, extending one of his tentacles. “What’s your name?”

Gingerly, Bunny approached the octopus and extended his own hand. “My name is Bunny. I’m sorry for almost hitting you – I didn’t know that anybody was in the sewer. Do you live down there?”

“No, I don’t live in the sewer. I live in a lake with my mommy and daddy. Mommy and I went for a swim. She told me to stay close, but I saw a tunnel and now I’m lost,” said Apu, looking real sad.

“Don’t be sad,” said Bunny. “I can help you find your mommy and daddy.”

Bunny remembered his very best friend’s mommy saying that underneath the valley was a river that flowed into the lake. Bunny knew how to get to the lake on land, but it was far and he wasn’t sure if Apu could be out of water for that long.

“I have an idea,” said Bunny. “If you wait here, I can get my friend’s fish tank and we can walk to the lake together.”

“You’ll really help me?” asked Apu as his face brightened.

“Of course, I’ll help you! Nobody should be away from their parents,” said Bunny. “Wait here. I won’t be too long.”

Bunny turned for home and ran as quickly as his little legs could move. When he got home, Bunny found his wagon and the fish tank. Once it was filled with water, he set off to rejoin Apu.

When Bunny returned, Apu was so excited to see him. “I never knew that bunnies could be so kind and caring,” said Apu as he climbed into the tank.

Bunny blushed and set off towards the lake.

When they arrived at the lake, Apu let out a low, almost indiscernible noise and began to scan the lake. Off in the distance, he saw movement in the water.

“Look,” said Apu, as he pointed to the movement. “I think that’s my mommy.”

As Apu said that, a big head emerged out of the water.

“There’s mommy!” cried Apu as he crawled out of the tank and into the lake towards his mommy.

When Apu got close, his mommy gave him a great big hug.

“I looked everywhere for you!” exclaimed his mommy. “I was so worried. Stay with me. We’re family. Families stick together. Remember? Where did you go?”

“I’m sorry mommy. It’s just that I saw a tunnel to explore. But then I couldn’t see you and I got lost.” Then Apu remembered Bunny.

“Bunny,” said Apu. “I met a bunny named Bunny who helped me find my way back. Did you want to meet him?”

“I would love to meet Bunny” said Apu’s mommy. “But you have to promise me that you won’t wander off again.”

“I promise,” said Apu.

Looking doubtfully at her son, Apu’s mommy nodded her head towards the shore. “Introduce me to your friend,” she said.

A big smile spread across Apu’s face as he started to swim back to shore. His mommy’s heart melted, and all was forgiven.

“Bunny!” called Apu as he came to shore. “This is my mommy.”

“Hello,” said Bunny.

“Hello,” said Apu’s mommy. “Thank you for helping my son find his way home! He is very lucky to have met you.”

Bunny blushed again and said that he should return home to his mommy before she starts to worry.

“Of course,” said Apu. “Goodbye!”

“Goodbye,” said Bunny, as he began his walk home.
